    • This lab describes how to extend, or re-arm, the Windows 7 evaluation period.
    • The evaluation period is also known as the "activation grace" period.
    • These instructions apply to any edition of Windows 7.

  2. Lab Notes
    • In this lab we will do the following:
      1. We will extended the Windows 7 Evaluation Period using the Windows Server License Manager Script called slmgr.vbs

Section 1. Start your Windows 7 VM
  1. Edit Virtual Machine Settings
    • Instructions:
      1. Click on Windows 7
      2. Click on Edit virtual machine

     

  2. Configure Network Adapter
    • Instructions
      1. Select Network Adapter
      2. Click the radio button "Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network."
      3. Click the Okay button

     

  3. Start Windows 7
    • Instructions:
      1. Click on Windows 7
      2. Click on Play virtual machine

 

Section 2. Login to Windows 7
  1. Login
    • Instructions:
      1. Enter Password
      2. Click the Blue Arrow

     

  2. Activate Windows now
    • Instructions:
      1. Click on Ask me later

     

  3. It's important to use genuine Microsoft software
    • Instructions:
      1. Click OK

 

Section 3. Re-Arm Windows Server License Manager
  1. Open a Command Prompt
    • Instructions:
      1. Click the Start Button
      2. Type "cmd" in the search box
      3. Click on cmd

     

  2. Windows Server License Manager Script
    • Instructions:
      1. slmgr.vbs -dli
      2. View Message saying the grace time expired
      3. Press the OK Button
     
  3. Open a Command Prompt with administrative privileges
    • Instructions:
      1. Click the Start Button
      2. Type "cmd" in the search box
      3. Right-Click on cmd
      4. Click on Run as administrator

     

  4. User Account Control
    • Instructions:
      1. Click on Yes.

     

  5. Extend Evaluation Period
    • Instructions
      1. slmgr.vbs -rearm
      2. Wait for the Windows Script Host box to appear
      3. Press the OK Button

     

  6. Reboot System
    • Instructions
      1. shutdown -r -t 5 -c "System Reboot in Progress"

     

  7. Login
    • Instructions:
      1. Enter Password
      2. Click the Blue Arrow

  1. Proof of Lab Instructions
    • Instructions:
      1. date
      2. Press <Enter>
      3. echo "Your Name"
        • Replace the string "Your Name" with your actual name.
        • e.g., echo "John Gray"
      4. slmgr.vbs -dli
      5. Do a PrtScn
      6. Paste into a word document
      7. Upload to Moodle
